Habeggers

Today at Habeggers we experienced an entire slope collapse. On our way in a party of two with a dog was leaving. When we reached the first north facing trees/glade, it was apparent the party before us had rode the slope twice. About 100’ out onto the skintrack of this slope (which had been traversed at least 4 times) I heard a very loud whomp/collapse that lasted approximately 5 seconds. I continued up the skin track looking for cracks in the snowpack. While continuing up the slope I counted approximately 50-75 cracks in the snowpack ranging in size from hairline to 3/4”. They were spread out from approximately 9300’ to 9600’ elevation and about 1000’ horizontal distance from the trigger point. More or less the entire glade had collapsed. We measured slope angles in the area from approximately 20-28 degrees. There was on average about 3’ of recent snow in the area. On our second lap, which would have been the 4th party of two to traverse the skin track the same area collapsed again however it was not nearly as loud as the first one we experienced.
