Quick report

Toured in Silver Basin (Threeway Exit Chute, Henskin Trees, Sparkle Party) with a brief poke into the Morse drainage. Prevailing conditions were 8-10" of soft snow over bulletproof crust, and anything that looked like it might be an immovable object covered by a layer of fresh snow pretty much was. Soft snow layer was unconsolidated, non-reactive (hand shear test, skin track test), and lightly bonded to the crust below. Lines in the Henskin Lake and Bear Gap area (NNW/N/NNE aspects) had enormous, frozen-in, rock-hard piles of rubble at the bottom; we were able to skirt the piles by skiing in the trees. Other evidence of the recent avalanche cycle (enormous hunks of cornice) was abundant.
