Quick report

Quick tour out on Chickadee Ridge. Top 10cm or so of of snow was dry, silky/sugary. Skied surprisingly nicely on shaded north aspects all things considered, with the snowpack very supportive of skis with minimal penetration. As reported elsewhere, boot penetration was deep, near the base of the snowpack (total depth ~90cm). Dug a quicky pit on north aspect, 8850' elev. BTL. 1F density on top 10cm, hardened to 4F & F density intermittently all down to the last 15 cm- to ground, where possible light rain crust marked the transition to rotten facets. With a ski pole, Cut out a standard 1'x1' column for a compression test. It failed as I cut the final corner at the base around 10-15cm where the old, rotted facets have shown to be a persistent issue.
