Snowpack

The snowpack in Lost Horse is fairly stable, except for surface wet snow problems. Going into the warm spell, Lost Horse had one of the deeper snowpacks around and did not have the same mid snowpack persistent weak layers found in the southern or northern Bitterroot. At the upper elevation, we dug a full-depth pit on the north and south aspects and found rounding throughout the snowpack. Instability in this area is likely isolated to wet snow near the surface. Based on data gathered today, I would hesitate to make a more sweeping statement about how the midpack weak layers are reacting to the warming.
