Quick report

Collapsing
isolated

Woke up early and brought my crampons along for a search in vain for decent snow. What I found was a small amount of supportable crust, widespread breakable crust on saturated snow, some saturated snow without the crust, and wind buffed snow. Very steep sections of S facing terrain had point releases and decent sized rollerballs presumably from yesterday. I did see a small amount of what looked like nice snow on steeper N/NE facing slope, but I avoided it. Sure enough, while skinning on a gentle NE facing slope, I experienced two audible collapses. Given the severity of the consequences, it’s enough to steer me clear of serious terrain for the time being. While the weather feels like spring, the snowpack isn’t yet there.
