Ebbetts Pass

We went to Ebbetts Pass to get an idea of conditions, observe the wind affect, and check on the buried rain crust. We found 10 cm of new snow at the pass and freezing temps for the majority of the day. The top 35 cm was cold and soft with a supportable midpack. This made for good riding conditions. We saw expected but impressive snow banners on all of the surrounding peaks due to the east wind. It was calm to light lower in the terrain. Wind affected areas in near tree line terrain had localized cracking but was shallow (observed 15cm) and stubborn. We dug a snow pit as a baseline for this area and found a right side up snowpack. Results were not noteable. The buried rain crust is currently not a concern.   The base of the snowpack was moist polycrystals. Snow heights ranged from 105cm to 275cm, and on average was 175cm.

Overall Ebbett's is showing similar conditions to Carson Pass and Luther Pass in regards to wind transportation and snow depths.
