A warm, sunny, and calm afternoon at Stevens Peak. One large and several very localized collapses heard/felt, and two recent natural avalanches. All the snow between the Dec 19th and Jan 2nd layers was weak and faceted, and produced an unstable Extended Column Test result.
One large collapse that sounded like it propagated the size of a football field. Several other localized collapses that didn't extend more than ~15 feet. All on NE/E aspects near and below treelineWeather

Warm, sunny, and calm day with the occasional light gust from the north. Dense snow surfaces and a new crust limited snow available for wind transport.
Snowpack
Dense snow surface that made for good travel considering the shallow snowpack. Weak facets between the Dec 19th and Jan 2nd layers. A new, thin crust observed on the surface, likely from freezing mist or fog, up to our high point of 9000ft. In many places this had already been covered by additional blowing snow.
