There were expansive meadow areas with well developed surface hoar on the surface. These are lovely feathery frost crystals that form on the snow surface and can become a buried persistent weak layer if they survive long enough to be buried intact.
Snowpack
I found pretty nice shallow loud powder conditions in north facing terrain, and smooth and fast dust-on-crust at lower elevations, even in sunny terrain.
