Quick report
Natural avalanches observed from previous storm cycle atop Buck Mountain. Multiple crowns ranging from near the summit to below the cliff band. East facing 11,800' - 10,600' D2.5 with some D1s. Seemed like windslab from the previous storm cycle and with wide propagation below cliff bands - perhaps a result from the graupel pooling during that event. These slides did not appear to have any step downs to our crusts of concern (12/10 and Christmas crust). Stewarts Draw NE 9,600', Natural D2. See photo. Likely ran during the warm Christmas storm event and was recently refilled from the past storm. Wide and long propagation, practically running the full slope of 800'. Peaches also ran at some point (Natural D2 estimated 9,000'), likely during the Christmas storm as well considering it had refrozen wet debris with new snow on top of the rubble. Sorry no photos, but had very similar characteristics to the natural avalanches Bobby G reported from Granite, where we had dense snow and rain tipping the scale of the slab on top of the old Nov. facets (almost wet slab like in nature from the atypical wet storms this month). Of note, today's travel we experienced cold, stiff, and stubborn wind slabs on ne facing slopes and evidence of wind channeling in lower drainages on similar aspects. Last night's WNW winds may have had a touch more N here given the change in snow surface. In the alpine and above 10,500' winds were steady in the upper moderate range.
