We skinned up the established skin track to 1700 feet. We then stepped off the track into fresh snow and immediately felt wumphing. After another three steps in the same direction, there was another wumph. There were many more, including in places with visible buried ski tracks. Wumphs were localized, but consistent up to 2200'. There was a crust layer below soft, dry snow at about 30 centimeters deep. We dug a pit at 2017' on a West aspect. There was soft snow (fist) for about 40 centimeters lying on top of a stout crust layer (knife), facets, and another crust layer at about 45 centimeters beneath the surface. ECTP16, sudden planar. There was no visible wind effect where we dug the pit. The temperature in the parking lot was 5 degrees Fahrenheit, but 14 degrees at 2000'.
