Quick report
We visited the Link Mountain Weather Station to clear the rime off the tower and sensors.
- Soggy day, with mist or very light freezing rain in the morning and again early afternoon.
- We found a thin, freezing rain crust above about 5000 ft. This did not ruin the riding, though it didn't improve it.
- Mild temperatures and more rain softened this crust at mid-elevations by early afternoon.
- The crust prevented rain from saturating the near surface snow. We did not see fresh rollerballs and did not trigger wet loose snow sluffs on steep, mid-elevation slopes.
- We felt no collapses, even on slopes similar to those that collapsed 1/24.
No whumpfs in vicinity of whumpfs reported Wednesday 1/24

Light mist or freezing rain most of the morning (RV to RL; ZR). Break midday, then returned early afternoon. Winds light below summit ridge; moderate gusts at times on ridge.
Snowpack
- Thin (0.25 cm) zipper crust on all aspects above about 5000 ft. Might have been lower too, though we weren't off groomed trail at those elevations. Rain and/ or warm temps softened but did not eliminate this crust at mid elevations during the day.
- Snow immediately below this crust was moist to dry.
We did not dig; see obs from 1/24 for snowpack tests in the area.
Avalanche
Traversed debris field from slide over FS Road 115. One of the more sizeable slides I've seen on those slopes. We did not have the time or dry clothes to investigate the crown.
