Quick report
We found many types of surfaces (including dirt) on our way up Bishop Bowl. The moraine has very little snow and is not skinnable until you reach the first bench. On top of the moraine, the trees held light unconsolidated snow, while open terrain was a mix of supportable windboard and warm powder. No whumpfing was observed, but we did break off a few table-sized dinner plates in wind-affected areas. We dug a pit on a NE aspect at 11,200' (see pin) and observed the following profile: Stiff 4F from bottom of pit (135) to 180, 1F transition layer at 180, Right-side up 4F above 180. HS 220cm. Layers seemed generally well bonded and no facets were observed. Snow depth varied drastically throughout our tour. We were very surprised to find 220 cm of snow when we dug the pit. Snow depth seemed much shallower elsewhere, and sharks were a major concern on the descent.
