Travelling on SE aspects of Smuggler’s notch we found a very variable snowpack. On the same aspect we found: a freezing rain crust (likely from Feb 13 ~9am), a storm slab, a wind slab, some un consolidated new snow, and wind-scoured areas. The snowpack was shallow in some places (the ground was visible) and the deepest pockets were ~1m 50cm. We travelled on SE aspects in the forest and going up a couloir (Elephant Head ?). We found isolated pockets of instability in the line and the forest. In both, a storm slab from today’s snowfall and in the forest whoumps as well. These instability pockets were between wind-scoured and low snowpack areas.
