Quick report
In the morning we observed surface hoar along the Cog Railroad from 3700' to 4200'. In the afternoon on descent we noted that surface hoar still existed on skiers' left in the shade of the trees. The sunny skiers' right side of the Cog was not observed on descent. Above Jacobs Ladder (4700') icy conditions along the Cog warranted boot or ski crampons for ascent. Currently a fall on ascent or descent above Jacobs Ladder could result in a long sliding fall into the Clay Brook basin. Near and above tree line we experienced continuous moderate to intense blowing snow from the north and northwest winds. This persisted during our time near and above tree line. The blowing snow intensified as the winds increased mid afternoon. Snow available for transport still exists on northern and western aspects. Wind slabs observed above tree line and proximal to the Cog displayed minimal cracking. From ~5300' it was possible to skin the remainder of the way to the summit. Ski quality below treeline on the Cog was quite good, with only a few sections of thinly covered or exposed rocks .
