Unusual full depth large collapses below treeline on low angle slopes around 30 degrees. Culprit is likely basal facets at or near the ground. Such large collapses are somewhat unusual given that there is still a stout rain crust above it. Lot's of inconsequential surface snow cracking and releases below treeline, but dont get suckered into thinking that a full depth release won't happen btl. Firm icy blocks consisting of the entire shallow snowpack below treeline would make a small slide very hard to escape and likely injure yourself. Cautious route finding btl via lower angle slopes recommended to avoid possible unusual full depth releases below treeline. This scenario likely will not improve in the short term as it appears as if the rain crust is faceting out from the top of the pack while at the same time basal facets have fully developed at the bottom of the pack and are sandwiched by pencil to knife icy slab blocks. Extended cold temps at least in this location and altitude have made a sh*t sandwich not encountered in the alpine currently where the pack is deeper.
