Toured up Fred Burr trail, up into a drainage headed to Shaefman ridge to investigate a coulior. Trail to FB had 1-2 feet of snow. Low snow levels above the lake, all the way up to 8k. Snow was highly variable, consisting of 1-2 feet of sugary faceted snow, hard and thick wind crusts, dust on crust. Experienced isolated whumpfing/cracking at middle elevations. The day was COLD. While we stepped out on this tour, I would expect that the next snow event is going to bury some pretty nasty layers and make decision making complicated moving forward.
