Quick report
Visibility in the upper elevations Saturday was limited to a few hundred yards most times. We Toured from the deep lake trail head at 6700 feet all the way up to 8600’. There was about 4 inches of new snow on top of saturated unfrozen snow near the trail head at 6700 feet -the surface snow is soft and travel was good above a hard crust below the crust the snow was wet and soft. While hiking on skis, very minimal cracking in the snow surface was observed, mainly near trees where the snow had settled. At 8200 feet we had 20 cm or 8 inches of new snow that was soft and made for good skiing and easy touring.-dry and light graupel was coming down at times while we were digging our test pit. The only instabilities we saw were on the north aspects within the new soft snow moving on very steep, rocky slopes. Below the surface on north aspect of our test pit stability test showed good stability on lower elevation. South hasty pit showed an unfrozen snow pack below the new cold or snow and the crust at the interface. It seems like this is going to take a while to freeze our snow pack below the new snow.
Avalanche
Observed very small, relatively harmless to people, dry loose on North Aspect across from the deep lake trail head at around 7100 feet.
