Quick report

Completed compression test in an approximately 2 m deep pit. No new snow, temperatures in the mid 50s, sunny to partly cloudy skies. Two finger to pencil hardness layers interpreted as late January to mid-February surface crusts present at approximately 60 and 68 cm deep. Compression test yielded CT-X (no failure). Block moved when levered from behind with shovel. Overall impression was this layer did not represent unstable snow at this location (no avalanche terrain) but could potentially be less manageable on a steeper slope where the buried layer is less cohesive.
