Light rain and tree bombs followed us all the way up to 6400ft. The snow gave a whole new meaning to ‘cascade concrete’. We were staying off the steeps bc of the wet avalanche problem, but sticking to lower angles meant we were shimmying our way down. Very little ‘riding’ was had. The snow was so heavy and wet that trying to make a turn on our snowboards took every ounce of energy and the snow would pile up on our boards, adding a lot of extra weight. It was very warm and the sun peaked out for a bit. A weird January day.
Avalanche
Roller balls everywhere, some 3ft in diameter. Naturally released avalanches on convex features, narrow gulleys. We set off a few very small and isolated wet slabs on our descent.
