Quick report
We started hiking at the Eldorado gate, and found consistent skin-able snow on the road at 3020ft. From there we started skinning. As we were ascending to cascade pass we found lots of wind transported snow on the steep pitch right before you gain the lower angle slopes that lead to cascade pass. I dug two pits here, and found that there was up to 3 feet of snow above the crust in one location in the lee of a small cliff. A couple of column tests on the same west facing slope around 4800 feet produced a sheer about 1 foot down on first tap from the shoulder. We did not observe cracking or whumpfing. This was still the touchiest snow we found all day. We cautiously booted this steep pitch to gain the lower angle slopes up to cascade pass. Most of the east facing slopes on cascade pass and the Sahale arm were scoured and held little to no fresh snow. From Sahale glacier we skied down the farthest (skiers left) chute to doubtful lake. We did not have full confidence in the stability of the snow, so we stuck to the lower angle slopes. Snow conditions were variable mostly fun chalky powder. We observed no signs of instability on this decent. We then skinned back up to the arm following the route of the summer trail and skied out. On the way out we skied the last steep pitch one at a time(where we dug the pits earlier that morning). We did kick off a couple 6 foot wide, one foot deep slabs, but nothing that propagated. A very beautiful, windy, day in the backcountry.
