Light misty drizzle turned to freezing rain, which turned to heavy, wet snow, as the day progressed. The occasional patch of blue sky in the morning quickly disappeared by mid-day. At 5400' in the trees, we were saying, "Where's the wind?" We had our answer as soon as we climbed a bit higher into more exposed terrain, where strong SW winds were moving the leftover dry snow around with ease.
Snowpack
Warm and wet snow on the surface. Nothing in the upper meter of the snowpack displayed any signs of propagation during our last two days of travel. New storm snow should bond well to the old snow surface, at least below about 6000'.
