Quick report
Started at 7:20am, cool morning, slight to no breeze, partly cloudy. Sun poked out here and there but mostly stayed behind cloud cover. Wet and heavy snow. Lots of creek holes. Weather was warm and water was dripping from the trees though light snowflakes fell briefly around 8:30 am when we were at Source Lake. Though dense, snow seemed well consolidated; we didn't notice any layers or feel any crusts with ski poles. As we ascended No Fog more wet pow had accumulated (powder baskets pulled up ~4-6in). We began to see roller balls and signs of increasing storm slab/wet loose potential with more snow. Halfway up we heard a loud rumbling and saw to our right a wet loose slide on an adjacent slope NEE about 100 yards away. We got a brief glimpse of a splitboarder who had come down this way about 30 min prior (possibly down Bryant Couloir). Decided to head back to the car and stuck to the lifts at Alpental. Later on in the day we spoke with another splitboarder who also witnessed both the slide and the rider who came down shortly beforehand.
Avalanche
NEE, 4100ft, very bottom of Bryant Couloir before Source Lake. Couldn't see start zone from our vantage point but looked like it started underneath cliffs. Occurred just before 10:00 am. We think this was natural though we did see a solitary splitboarder descend this exact spot approximately 30 minutes before it slid. No one was caught. D2, ~15 yards wide and ~40 yards long? Again, it was hard to see from our vantage point as it occurred on a slope adjacent to us about 100 yards away skier's left and we exited skier's right.
