Very challenging travel conditions at Kendall Knob. Original plan was to scope out Kendall Adventure Zone, but the uptrack involved so much swacking, open creeks, and low snow that we opted to just drop into Kendall trees. One other party out that took a different uptrack than us, but on the ridge we crossed paths again and learned that both of our approaches required booting portions of them. In open areas there was 4 inches or so of fresh snow, much less under mature trees. Lots of sharks, exposed branches stumps, hidden rocks, and open creeks. The fresh snow was light and fluffly in places, and damp and mushy in others. On steeper slopes, the fresh snow was not supportive and frequently collapsed several inches down to an icy crust under our skis setting the skin track. On kick turns the fresh snow did not seem to move as a cohesive slab when it collapsed beneath our skis. Little to no wind loading noticed on the knob.
