This avalanche has been listed as north facing. However the actual aspect is southerly. We listed it as north facing because it is a shaded slope in Mill Creek Canyon that receives no sun. Best guess is that this natural soft slab avalanche failed on faceted snow at the old/new snow interface during the storm on January 14th as it had a layer of new snow covering over the bed surface. We observed this avalanche on the eastern side of Thousand Springs.
