Snowpack

Strong temp swings with solar gain again today. From 6,000’ to almost 8,000’ on South aspects the snow began softening with a touch of corn by 11AM. North aspects have a weakening snow surface in the mid to upper elevations with near surface facets developing, some sheltered due north aspects have weak snow comprising the top 20-25cm. Shaded areas with weak near surface facets on the surface, shaded slopes that have recently avalanched, or slopes that have some windboard with a skiff of NSF on top of them will be something to watch when our next storm rolls in - in addition to the slick melt freeze crust on the solars.

Yesterday in nearby terrain I was able to easily ski cut D1 windslabs just off the ridge on steep NE aspects in the upper elevations. Today they were more stubborn with nothing moving. However, it seems as if folks are still finding wind slabs from our previous storm, both off of ridgetops and on cross loaded features.
