Quick report

Rode Taylor to check wind slabs and overall instability. The warm storm combined with cold temperatures last night has locked things in place. Snow has settled significantly and been blown into windpack. The alpine has been really worked over.  Wind slabs are still a concern (mainly in the upper elevations), especially considering their size and recent formation. Strong solar influence before noon, then intermittent cloud cover. Sheltered terrain on shaded aspects in the trees remains the best preserved pow. Found some instability on crusts formed in March that are now buried by a hard slab with propagating stability tests (See Snowpack). Keep these layers in mind and send obs if you dig a pit!

Snowpack

Dug in the snow to check the reactivity of developing crusts that have formed recently and are now buried beneath a hard slab after all the recent snow. Also found some stout wind slabs from the strong winds yesterday. 

8800' SSW aspect HS: 161cm ECTP21 @ 122cm above a 1F hard thin melt freeze crust on 1mm facets with graupel. 

10,000' E aspect 4F to 1F hard slab 45 cm thick on top of light density storm. Shear test failed during isolation.
