The recent snow settled significantly at this low elevation, but it protects buried surface hoar. That facet layer is weak and soft, easily cleaned out with a finger. CT22 at the ground, with no significant collapse within the 5cm down buried surface hoar layer. Everything was pretty high moisture content. Takeaway: Even at lower elevation where snow is thin/brown the buried surface hoar layer exists. The steepest road cut on 21 had some small loose wet sluff releases near/at the ground, but not enough snow to be concerning. Still indicative of low warm snow.

Cloudy and pretty warm. AM low on 15th was 30F with frozen surface.
Snowpack
5570 ft elevation= 40cm snowpack. 3pm N aspect. Top few CM is 4f meltform from recent storm, then a light P crust layer over decomposing former surface hoar that has some needly facets still. (F) This is the weak layer being seen elsewhere l, and it seems insulated by the brush above it. Below is cohesive rounding meltforms. Temp is coldest in the middle of the snowpack and was at freezing on the surface and the ground.
