Went for a few laps in the friendly trees. Snow depth gradually improved with elevation gain. On and off snowfall through the am, with a brief lull from 11:30-13:30 including the occasional brief sun break. Winds in the alpine picked up around 11:30. Below TL: near freezing temps at pass level creating an upside down snowpack. No more than 20-30cms of new on the AR crust in openings, less below the canopy. @ and above TL: 4500ft and above in the open, approximately 50cms on the AR, with 40cms coming in the most recent storm cycle so far. Shovel tilts and hand pits revealed two distinct interstorm layers. A sensitive layer down 4cms that could become problematic with additional load. The layer of greatest concern was producing easy failure in hasty tests down 25cm. Found the most sensitive snow in lee pockets near ridgelines. Produced easy cracking around rock features, and triggered a small storm slab on an isolated convexity in otherwise benign terrain. Also observed a small WS crown high in the Snot
