Weather

Mostly sunny and warm with some low-level clouds moving over the West Elks around 13:00.

Snowpack

The snowpack below 10,000 feet is very thin (less than 20cm) and mostly composed of melt forms or moist near-surface facets. The deepest snowpack I observed was at 11,150 feet on a northeast-facing slope with a height of snow (HS) just over 40cm with about 5cm of a melt-freeze crust that had turned to depth hoard at the base (MFcr(DH)) and about 35cm of small-grained facets making up the rest of the snowpack. Most snow surfaces on shady slopes had developed surface hoar, even near treeline.

Avalanche

No signs of any avalanche activity.
