Quick report
returned to Castle Pass this morning and skied the same route as 12/31 found very similar conditions as yesterday, but it was windier and colder than expected north facing trees still holding snow but rime that was hit by the sun yesterday afternoon was melted off the surface hoar I saw yesterday was not present today, and open areas that had seen a little sun yesterday developed a manageable crust - the skiing was very good no signs of instability were observed I was out of the field by noon so I don’t know what the afternoon weather did at noon the parking at the Castle Peak Snopark was quite busy with non backcountry users who are not used to driving in the snow trying to find a place to frolic in the snow - it was a bit of a junk show
