Quick report

Sunday saw 6 inches of lower density powder on top of the 17 or so heavier snow that fell Friday night and through Saturday. We saw a lot of other shallow slabs breaking on this aspect in steeper terrain.

Avalanche

We were on the big bench in between upper and lower elbow, and saw a 5 foot crown on the north east facing steep pitch that had previously slid at some point in the hours before. We then watched someone ride down a similar angle and pitch in the adjacent cliff band and trigger an avalanche. They were caught, carried, and buried up to their waist. They reported being OK and were able to get themselves out. The crown looked to be around 5 feet or so and probably cracked about 100 feet across.
