Quick report
Large, natural wind slab observed near summit of Snoqualmie. Likely occured 2/4-2/5 Wet Loose occuring off steep, rocky terrain around 13:00 on solar aspects. Dug at 6,000’, NE aspect, very cold and shady feature. HS320cm. 10cm of fresh snow over a thin layer of 2mm, preserved stellars and needles. About 70cm of F to 1F below that from the 2/1-2/3 storm cycle with a P hard mid storm crust down ~75cm from the surface. JDL is 20cm of 1F, small rounded grains. 1/10 crust is solid (no faceting or weak grains) with MFcr and MF below. No notable results in CT tests. Also dug on WSW aspect, 5,600’. HS 300cm. 1/10 down 80cm. 5cm MFcr with softer (4F) FC below, all sitting on stout MFcr and MF below. PST 95/100 end and ECTX on facets between crust. ECTN on very hard taps (35+). Observed a large, natural avalanche on a steep, unsupported, wind loaded feature near the top of Snoqualmie Mountain. Likely 24-48 hours old. Crown depth estimated 50-75cm. I do not think this ran on any persistent weak layers. Digging close by on same aspect I did not find any PWL or concerning structure.
