Quick report
A quick observation from a tour up high. While stable now, my concern would be if we get the expected snow later in the weekend. I covered a bunch of miles and aspects and they all had a 1/8"-1/4" breakable crust on the surface. The last bit of snow must have ended with a bit of freezing rain. This crust sits on 4- finger/fist hard snow, which sits on the wind crust from the wind event a couple weeks ago. The layer sandwiched between the surface crust and the buried wind slab varies in depth from a few inches to over a foot in wind loaded spots. A heavy load of snow, which we all want, will put a stress on these upper layers. Considering it was supposed to be sunny/partly sunny today and I skied in the fog all day tells us weather forecasting is inexact at best, so who knows if this potential problem will come to fruition. The best turns were found mid-mountain as the crust was breakable enough.
