Quick report
There is widespread, very weak, faceted snow at the surface in untracked areas. While there are lots of tracks that have beaten down the surfaces in the meadows and creek bottoms, starting zones of the bigger paths have this weak layer. The weak snow is a foot or more of near surface facets with surface hoar on top in many spots.
The surface snow on south facing slopes at mid-elevations had started to get damp in early afternoon, but wet snow hadn’t become much of a hazard. There are still plenty of dry facets underneath any crust or damp snow.
We saw one facet sluff, but no other recent avalanches or signs of instability while riding.
We did see a couple loose wet avalanches in the Southern Madison Range from the highway on the drive home (see pictures).
