Observation: Naomi Peak

We traveled from Tony Grove to Naomi Peak/Magog to check out the upper-elevation terrain. Winds from the north were stronger than expected, and flagging was observed on the highest peaks. However, the amount of snow available for transport was minimal, and older wind slabs have begun to facet. Winds kept the snow surface cool, which helped keep the wet snow issues at bay. Cornices have been accumulating mass, and we observed old debris, likely resulting from cornice shedding. Overall, the snowpack appears to be holding together well.

Surface hoar. Not an issue for now, but something to watch for when we get more snow.

Soft snow can be found on NW-N-E facing slopes, and has begun the faceting process. Slopes exposed to the sun were firm and becoming damp throughout the day.
