“Surf-it City” In the name of objective science, we conducted an experiment: what if you took an individual who survived the oppressive conditions in the Middle Fork the last two days and got them into the Whitefish range today? Turns out, it works. Sledded (over a great many whoops) into Kimmerly today. Five new cm capped the very skiable crust from yesterday and the storm snow beneath. The only major obstacles included thick fog (though the sun nearly poked through this afternoon) and refrozen roller balls on steeper aspects. The snow surface stayed dry and temps hovered around freezing. Light to no wind to speak of. One whumph in a lee area just below a ridgeline on a west aspect.
Snowpack
Dug on an E aspect at 6666ft. HS 160cm. Five Cm of new snow above a light crust capping the storm snow. We saw a deep failure with hard force on our column test (CT 21 SP down 125cm) but did not observe propagation on any layers (Various ECTNs in the storm snow). See pictures for density changes.
