Quick report

Cracking
specific

Toured around southern Whitefish Range today looking for fresh snow and atypical wind loading along ridgelines

  • Found both (see photos)
  • Wind slabs were reactive to the weight of a rider on specific terrain features. Easily managed with good travel techniques. Northerly aspects just below ridgeline were scoured clean of recent snow, while other areas held up to 25 cm.
  • Small D1 dry loose sloughing on steeps could slide long distances on the crust from last weekend.
cornice and wind pillows on ridgelines. nearly all were soft and cracking was limited to under 3'.
