Quick report

GTNP

Traveled just above 11k to check the alpine for signs of wind slabs. None were found during our travels. 8-10" of recent snow since Sunday (2/18) showed limited signs of wind affect, even in higher peaks (quite pleasant). Wind slabs could be found in isolated terrain, especially in the alpine above the forecast zone (10.5k). Careful evaluation is still necessary. Feb storms have deposited a significant amount of snow in the higher elevations. This snow is still well preserved, specifically on northerly aspects. Solar influence was strong with scattered cloud cover for most of the day creating isothermal snow on southerly aspects. Watch for this warming now that we are transitioning to stronger solar influence later into the winter increasing instability on southerly aspects throughout the days.
