Quick report

6 inches of new powder fell on these slopes in the past 24 hours. Due to wind transport, the snow was piled up to 36 inches in places over an underlying pencil-hard crust. Digging down, the hard crust was about 5 cm thick and below that was a 20 cm layer of 4- finger hardness snow on top of another thinner pencil-hard layer. Quite variable! I got ECT-X results from this snow pit dug on this southerly facing ridge line at 8195 feet. Very gentle slope of maybe 5 degrees.
