Tamarack Peak

Snow coverage exists throughout the Tamarack Peak area above 8500' on NW-N-NE aspects with some slopes showing more continuous coverage with up to 11'' on higher elevation north aspects.  Most other aspects have patchy snow coverage with south facing terrain mostly melted off.  Snow that does exist on these northerly aspects is weak faceted snow. Locations that most effectively protected late October snow from melt also hold a rain crust either at the bottom or at mid height within the snowpack.  This snow is expected to continue the faceting process through this current dry period.  Limited avalanche concerns exist at this point with no problematic slab above some of this weak snow development.
