We woke up after a night of rain and, because we're on day two of our avy 2 class, went out to try to find some good snow to ski instead of sleeping in. We dug four testpits at an elevation of 8500ft, on a NE aspect to check the reactivity of the Jan 2nd weak layer. Total snow depth was 110cm, and test results were CT-26 SC down 70cm, ECTN-30 down 30cm, and PST END 15/100 down 70 cm. We were psyched to find the raincrust from last night's storm went away not far above where we dug, and 4-6" of great snow coming down from the summit! We encountered the 2" raincrust again somewhere below 8500ft on the way down, and it made for interesting skiing.
