Quick report
Toured up to Donner Peak from Summit Haus. Coverage has improved a lot and it actually feels like skiing instead of billygoating. Breakable rain/melt crust on all aspects, but was sitting on a very supportable snowpack. I dug a pit below Judah Ridge that regularly gets windloaded. I believe I found the remnants of the Jan 2 PWL @ 50 cm below the surface. However it seemed completely unreactive: CTX and PST X 100 cm. (This was my first PST, so take the result with a grain of salt.) Just below the rain crust, there was a soft layer of rounding facets and needles from what I assume is old snow and wind deposit. CT8 SP on this layer. However, since there is not much material above this layer, it was not too concerning. On the downhill, small dinner plates sloughed off, consistent with the pit obs. With possible heavy loading this weekend, it might become more concerning.
