Mt. Abundance

We dug a pit on the south facing side of Mt. Abundance at 9900'. Snow depth was 203cm (6.5 feet). ECTs showed ECTN results on a layer of surface hoar and facets buried 1.5 to 2 feet down. This layer does not appear to be a widespread instability right now, but is worth keeping in mind and digging to look for before committing to steep terrain. Surface hoar was growing on the surface as well.

Avalanche activity: There were a few wind slabs that may have happened within the last couple days, but difficult to tell how old. The most recent and largest was on the north side of Wolverine D1.5-2 (photo). There were a couple avalanches in Miller Creek around 8800' that appeared 3-4+ days old. These were 1-2' deep and 20-40' wide on short, steep slopes along the edge of the creek. D1.5, Snowmobiler triggered (photos attached).

Skies were obscured to overcast with a few glimpses of blue sky and sunshine. Wind was calm, light on the ridgetop. A thin sun crust formed on some southerly aspects, but not all.
