Marion Lake (Repeater Ridge)

It was another nice day to be out skiing. We observed many others from the community enjoying the abundance. • A bit colder than the past few days. Teens on the canyon floor in the morning and teens up high throughout the day. • Skies were broken with sunlight peeking through thin clouds and light snowfall. The filtered light was beautiful, but we were grateful that it remained cool and that the sunshine was only intermittent. • The 50cm+ of 72hour snowfall has begun to settle a bit despite the cool temps and continuation of calm winds. I do not believe it has crossed the threshold of a consolidated slab just yet though. • It was astoundingly busy on Repeater Ridge today. We counted at least 9 different parties (included us), many of which were skiing two or more laps on the south facing slopes. • This terrain averages around 30-35 degrees in steepness with many short pitches exceeding 35. We estimate that somewhere in neighborhood of 50+ tracks were etched on these slopes today, putting repeater ridge to the test in some ways. I did not observe a single spot where any of these tracks released a pocket or slab of any kind. Just a bunch of deep trenches and sloughs running very short distances. • The apparent stability was good news as it is almost impossible to manage your groups exposure and safety, when many users are utilizing the same terrain throughout the day at different times. Especially because this specific terrain is undulating throughout and does not provide any locations with a good overall vantage. • We had decent visibility of some of the steeper avalanche terrain in the neighborhood today, and still could not make out any descernable slab avalanches from the most recent storm cycle. No signs of instability observed save for several small (D1) point releases in various rocky areas on the steep north facing terrain on Essex Mountain.
