Quick report

Toured up to Castle Pass and then over into the north side of Castle peak basin via low angle terrain. On the tour snow depth ranged from 80-150cm. Descending towards carpenter valley snow surface changed and became noticeably more dense below 8,000ft. We dug a hasty pit to check the layers on a NW aspect at 8700ft. The structure had several crusts, one about 30cm down from the surface, another crust 70cm down and one near the ground about 100cm down. Facets near the ground were wet and rounding (Hooray!) No signs of instability were observed.
