Quick report

Amazingly good skiing on sheltered north slopes considering recent weather. Anywhere from 20-50 cm new snow from the last few days sitting on a firm but breakable crust. Soft slab characteristics have formed and minor slab releases were observed. Around 6400 ft there appeared to be a minor surface hoar layer (last evening’s clearing?) in the middle of the soft surface snow and a few small unsupported pitches cracked and calved off while skinning (steep rollovers above tree wells). Lower in elevation, on several very steep convexities, all the new snow slid on the old crust. Nothing propagated onto planar slopes. Lots of anchors still, but all the wet weather really helped lay down the brush.

Avalanche

Strategically set off a few soft slab pockets in predictable spots, nobody caught.
