The weather became stormier as the morning progressed. When I started down around noon it was snowing moderately and there was at least 5 cm of new snow. Throughout most of my tour the wind was Light or Moderate but it was Strong from the southwest on the summit.
Snowpack
At 6,990 ft. I observed 42 cm. of new snow from during this week. In most places this week's snow overlays a melt-freeze crust from last weekends warm sunny weather. On Tuesday Elliott was able to find buried surface hoar at this same interface on the shadiest, most sheltered slopes, but I wasn't able to find any in the terrain that I toured on today.
The latest storm snow seemed to have just enough cohesion that I observed some minimal cracking on steep rollovers.
I observed only light blowing snow, but there were large cornices overhanging east slopes that had grown recently.
Avalanche
I was able to trigger a D1 Wind Slab on an east slope around 7,300 ft. by dropping a large chunk of cornice on it.
