Cracking
isolated

Lots of evidence of NW winds from the last few days. Stiff, shallow wind slabs were only found on isolated features during our travels, like steep cross loaded sidewalls of gullies above 8500'. We found pretty much every type of snow surface out there, but mainly windboard (varying hardness) and crusts. There was evidence of large debris piles during the avalanche cycle around Jan 6-8th (similiar characteristics to the Grand Teton East Face and St Pattys Day Coulior). Debris piles from more recent wind slabs and wet loose avalanches were more apparent. Strong westerly wind in the alpine today with visible lenticulars building around noon. Clear skies becoming scattered by the afternoon. For those with ambitious desires, Jackson Lake is frozen. Watch out for wet patches. 

We found similair structure to other areas of the central Tetons in GTNP. Total snow depth ranged from 125-185cm (50-72") in the middle elevations where the Dec drought layer was buried over 100cm (40") in all locations we probed. The snowpack north of Moran remains a black hole and is likely shallower. The main layer of concern will be the current snow surface with near surface facets and crusts. Forecasted snow accumulation for the Tetons is 3-6" by tomorrow night. 

Shooting cracks above 8500' on isolated terrain features like cross loaded gullies.
