Today we wanted to dig a pit to see if our persistent weak layer, or “Christmas Ice Layer”, was still reactive. Our three tests (CT, ECT, & PST) were all Non Reactive. Although we did not see any evidence of the weak layer reacting to our tests, we did observe several new layers in the top half of the snow pack which going forward could cause some problems with more snow load and wind load at tree line and above so keep an eye out on the top couple feet of our snow pack as conditions change. Top 30cm of snow collapsed above the snow pit when walking on it

Snowpack
Snow pit was dug on a NE aspect at 10400’ on the way down into South French Creek drainage. Slope angle was not that steep at 20 degrees. Three tests were performed: compression test (CT), extended column test (ECT), and a propagation saw test. All three tests were non reactive (example ECTX:PSTnull) possibly warranting another observation in the same area at a steeper slope angle.
