Quick report

Cracking
specific

An avalanche on the north aspect of the pass 2 miles south of the South Fork River Trailhead. A well defined surface break. The slide run down the gully a fair distance. There was about 8-12" of fairly dense new snow above 2700 feet. With new drifts of over 2 feet in places. There was only about 50% continuous coverage of snow before the storm, and less than 25% coverage in wind blown areas. The new snow is not adhering well to the rock hard old snow and easily breaks away on greater than 20 degree slopes when walked on.

Forecaster note:  This avalanche was skier triggered. It was also reported also by the party involved. Link to that report HERE.
